This is a frequent bus service serving an airport. As you pass the stop you will either see one bus waiting there, or if none there, one will arrive very soon. Today, no bus. The road is in construction. The stop itself is blocked off. Where do you go to catch the bus? We are catching the bus in a few days. Will this affect us? Uncertainty solved after some time. The bus will now stop further along the way. It’s not obvious. But if you follow the normal route of the bus, it’s actually a few stops away.

Rules, rules, rules. No yeast, no honey. That’s what Leviticus 2:11 says. God wants you, yourself, no embellishment. Not how much you have ‘risen’ in school grade, career ladder, seniority at work or even in wider family, bank account, or the ‘senior’ in senior pastor. How much you are influential to others, that has nothing about you in God. Unless it is about discipling others in the way of God. Be yourself as you draw near to God. The honey might be the modern day aromatic technique that acts as a pleasant agent that even permeates the immediate environment. This […]
The Church is wherever God’s people are praising. When we attend mass / church services, we often sing. Singing is part of our act of worship, to praise God. To praise God is to say God is so good that he deserves our praise. There will always be things and people we appreciate, we praise them because they have that special personality, habit or something about them that we want to praise them. Reflect the following. If you are in a group, feel free to discuss. What are the things you praise God about? Do you find it easier to […]
Do you play the drum in your worship team? Flute? Harp? Bass guitar? Cello? Or do you sing? Worship leader? On the audio-visual? Maybe the saxophone? Organ? Violin? Rhythm guitar? I usually play the piano, but I very much prefer to play the drum set. There are more I can’t play or do, or choose not to. I know the basic of flute, violin, guitar, but I don’t yet have enough command of any of these to be able to play them on my own, let alone in a team. A team. A community. We can’t be every role in […]
First Next The finest flour is the best of yourself in God (see previous blog). It is not quite taking all improvement exercises, methods in mindfulness or self-emptying, wellness enhancement such as balanced diet, deep breath, or wholeness; or any such combinations of the above. Some of these are good. The point though is that the ‘fineness’ is your readiness for God to work in your life. In the way you can comfortably play all the bar chords of B major on the guitar, you can recall the friends and teachers who gave you tips and tricks on learning and […]
The earth with the exact quantity of air, including oxygen, is quite amazing. It’s enough for all of us. OK, it’s more complicated than that. There is a kind of air regeneration cycle where oxygen is reproduced. I heard of an account where oxygen had been shot up to space. I wanted to find out more about it, whether truth or myth. There’s an account in this link, where indeed in some atmospheric regions the gases are excited to the extent that some stray oxygen atoms burst out to space. Do these oxygen atoms have any use up in space? […]
First Next The Holy Spirit is the enabler for us to worship God in truth. Leviticus chapter 2 speaks about Holy Spirit in the form of oil and frankincense. The use of oil sounds like anointing, a kind of seal, that our worship is acceptable to God. The use of frankincense speaks about wellness, happiness, contentment, or just smelling nice. Oil and frankincense. This is amazing stuff. While we are not going to take the text literally now since Jesus has fulfilled the Old Testament, oil and frankincense are two important ingredients in our worship. In fact, also as we […]
For part 1, click here. The musical style of Hope Is Here is similar to Blessed Be Your Name (Matt Redman version). Similar in the sense that the music is best sung syncopated, and there is not that much gap between phrases to take breath. I feel Hope is Here has a kind of ‘strong moving pace’; although Blessed Be Your Name also feels it has a ‘strong moving pace’, the feel is different. The pace of Hope is Here is like filling a cup already overflowing. You could not hold back something, you are feeling the goodness in some […]
The song in discussion is Hope is Here. Which one? We need a bit more information since the words in the title are a combination of very popular words. It is by Tim Hughes & Nick Herbert. It has a secondary title in bracket (Jesus Saves). Key is B major. It is 21st century, copyright 2008. This song will probably engage with your ideological standpoint much more than other songs. This song – lyrics, music – can make you think what church is or should be. Different people might well respond in very different ways. Depending on what kinds of […]
What do I know about patience? Being patience is really difficult – one step forward, two steps back!! 2 Cor 12:9 says God’s power is made perfect in our weakness. Patience is an evidence (fruit) of growing in Christ. (Gal 5:22) When waiting for something, doubt might set in, or we get distracted by ill advice. (Job’s friends) The following might be useful. What do I want? The “certainty” of patience. The more we wait, the more we say to ourselves this is really, really what I want. We might also ask others what they think. Grace and humility govern […]
Over the course of the past few months I have been learning some basic programming on an online application. My aim was to build up a system where I can repeat almost all the steps to send an email to about 50 people, and that there is one place in the email message where I have a specific message pertaining to the person receiving the message. Spending half a day on it again I managed to get the system working. I haven’t contacted everyone yet, but the first few. The rest I will send another day. This online application is […]
Next Making choices is nothing new – even this statement is a little strange, everybody makes choices all the time. For example, you can watch a film about a story when a book form is also available. You might prefer to go this way so you can also enjoy the nice buildings along the way, than the other way which is shorter but not as enjoyable. You might choose to have lunch with a friend even though you had lunch together just a week ago but you enjoy each other’s company, than having quick food style meal at your desk […]
It’s such a super idea we have a day devoted to our one loved one. Nothing replaces giving somebody your utmost attention. Nothing replaces companionship, friendship, commitment. Or love. Indeed Jesus is the greatest friend. He saves you before you know him. There are too many philosophical debates over that last sentence. It also sounds too good to be true. It’s all about the other one. For the moment, let’s rest on the fact that all is good. You are not demanding the other one what they should do now that they owe you, and you can expect they don’t […]
