“Beauty for brokenness” makes you wonder what this could mean, or whether it is logical, does it make sense? Reading the other way “Broken for beauty” seems to help. “Beauty for brokenness” suggests there is a reason for something to be broken. But this reason is both “for” and “because of”. I am going round in circle again. “Beauty for brokenness” is the first line of a song, its second line is “Hope for despair”. The song has a lot of words that often make us take a second look – justice rights peace joy poor cruel scorched ills plundered […]

Some days ago I was at a work meeting where there was going to be a change in the manner of documentation and reporting for senior managers. The work I have done so far has not been in vain, it was not condemned to the black hole; I also dreaded the change could be far worse. Instead, there’s an air of optimism. A slight spring in my step. Mental health is a serious issue. I have found myself trying to work something out when there are a lot of things I cannot change. Sometimes you might feel your performance is […]
The noise from the truck was deafening. The cars behind it stayed a distance, the sight of the rubbish collected in the truck seems to also ‘speak’ of its smell. The full seven days of 2019 are in history. Beginning with thoughts and plans for the new year, some of us would also have a great sense of excitement on how the year will unfold for them. However, some of the last few days at the end of last year, and first few days in the year had been challenging – for some it’s having to think about who to […]
Entering the building, the security people were interested in my belongings. They want to deduce from my belongings my intention. It appears they can deduce implications from materials to form an intention that I own. There are way too many precious objects in this building. Before this building came into existence, the objects were stored in numerous locations. The objects could be retrieved to be viewed by the public, but in practice you needed to register as a member which meant you got to justify why the objects would be of meaning and value to you. It’s more than shopping […]
We met yesterday morning for a worship band rehearsal. It’s the line up we had the last time we got together to lead worship, about 3 months ago. This would be for a special service in a week’s time. The three singers sang with a lot of conviction, but it felt apart a little when it turned out they didn’t know one song which I thought they knew. Learning the new song was not a problem. Christ is My Reward has remarkable tune – its melodic inflection sounds like speech; it’s a kind of singing where you tell a story. […]
Opening the door, I went out in the normal fashion, taking the keys with me. Leaving the computer on had to be done. I was nearest the door anyway. I went to the car and drove away. My mobile phone rang about an hour later, but I didn’t answer it. It didn’t persist. A short email arrived later from one of my colleagues; he said I could have let you back in. Next day, two notes came in the post to me, along with a voucher. I decided not to reply back, except to reply the email from my colleagues, […]
